Tuesday night, people in the Scarsdale School District voted for a second time on next year's school budget. The spending plan was passed by about 84% of voters. 2,465 people voted yes, while 454 voted no.
The first spending plan was voted down on May 21. Because of that vote, the new budget is now at $143 million, down from $145 million.
Parts of the previous proposal that were cut include plans for a wellness center at the high school, in addition to $1.3 million in additional cuts. The new 2013-2014 budget proposal keeps core educational programs, extracurricular activities and class sizes the same as the previous year.
The budget votes comes as Scarsdale Superintendent Michael McGill prepares to step down next year. McGill's current contract runs out in June of 2014. Since 1998 McGill has been with the Scarsdale School District.
