Swearing in ceremonies scheduled at NY School for Deaf, Highview School & Town Hall
The swearing in ceremonies at area schools is always very special!
Happy new year! I am excited about my new new term of office which began on January 1. And congratulate the other newly elected and re-elected town officials. During my tenure as Town Supervisor (and before that as Westchester County Legislator) I have made it a point to have ceremonial swearing in ceremonies at schools.
One of the most inspiring ceremonies is held at the NY School for the Deaf which is located on Knollwood Road. This school provides opportunities to those who are hard of hearing. I have held swearing in ceremonies for myself almost every two years at this school since I was first elected to the Westchester County Board of legislators 42 years ago. It's my hope that one day a graduate of the NY School for the Deaf will win election to a prominent office.
Another swearing in ceremony will be held at Highview School on Central Ave. A few years ago I met someone who told me that he held the bible at a school swearing in ceremony years ago and now holds an elected office in another community.
Finally, the Town Board members who have been re-elected will be sworn into office at the beginning of our first meeting of the year.
For me –this ceremony at Town Hall will be extra special. When I was first elected Supervisor my niece, who was then about 2 and a half years old, held the bible. On January 14th her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter will also hold the bible at Town Hall—continuing a family tradition!
Newly re-elected town officials are Councilwoman Ellen Hendrickx, Councilman Francis Sheehan, Town Clerk Lisa Maria Nero, Receiver of Taxes Venita Howard and Town Justice Lia Rodriguez. They have been invited to participate in all the ceremonies.
