1. Construction underway on $5.4 million affordable housing project in Schenectady (timesunion.com) — A $5.4 million project is transforming six long-vacant buildings on Germania Avenue and Schenectady Street into 11 affordable family-sized apartments, with completion expected next summer. Backed by federal, city, and foundation funding, the effort targets residents who are homeless or at risk and aims to preserve historic housing stock while revitalizing Hamilton Hill and nearby corridors.
   

2. County Manager Rory Fluman placed on administrative leave (timesunion.com) — Schenectady County Manager Rory Fluman has been abruptly placed on administrative leave through the end of the year, with Deputy County Manager Jennifer Bargy stepping in as acting manager. County leaders have not disclosed a reason, and Fluman’s term was already set to expire this month. The move raises questions about county leadership heading into the new year.
   

3. Clifton Park man sentenced for Colonie hit and run that killed Schenectady woman (spotlightnews.com) — A 58-year-old Schenectady woman was killed in a March hit-and-run on Wolf Road in Colonie, and the driver has now been sentenced to state prison. Prosecutors said the Clifton Park man fled and failed to report the crash, while the victim’s family described their loss in court. Schenectady County authorities helped track down the damaged vehicle.
   

4. Man convicted of murder in brutal assault of girlfriend at Schenectady motel (wnyt.com) — A Schenectady County jury has convicted a man of murdering his girlfriend in a brutal 2024 assault at the Imperial Motel in Schenectady. Prosecutors say surveillance, witness testimony, and an autopsy showed he beat her severely, then tried to stage the scene. He now faces 25 years to life when he’s sentenced in February.
   

5. Siena Baseball Holds Third Annual "Adopt a Saint" Holiday Shopping Experience (cbs6albany.com) — Local kids from Schenectady joined others from nearby towns for a special holiday shopping trip with the Siena baseball team at Dick’s House of Sport in Latham. Each child received $200 for new sports gear, met players, and even took some swings in the batting cage as part of the team’s community-focused “Adopt a Saint” tradition.
