18-Year-Old Critically Injured In Suffolk Crash: Police

The crash took place early Sunday morning, police say.

MASTIC BEACH, NY — An 18-year-old was critically injured in a Mastic Beach crash early Sunday, police said.

According to Suffolk County police, the two-vehicle crash took place on Neighborhood Road and West Riviera Drive at 1:42 a.m.

A 19-year-old from Mastic Beach was driving a 2013 Hyundai southbound on West Riviera Drive when the vehicle struck an eastbound 2014 Toyota at the intersection of Neighborhood Road; the Hyundai then struck a tree, police said.

Robert Ball, 18, of Mastic Beach, who was in the rear seat of the Hyundai, was transported to Stony
Brook University Hospital in critical condition, police said.

The driver of the Toyota, a 25-year-old Mastic Beach man, who was alone in his vehicle, was
treated at and released from a local hospital, police said. The 19-year-old driver and a 16-year-old from Mastic Beach, who was the front seat passenger in the Hyundai, were treated for minor injuries, police said.

No charges were filed in the crash; both vehicles were impounded for safety checks, police said.
