Arson Probing House Fire That Hurt 1 In Suffolk: Police

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Arson detectives are investigating a fire that broke out at a home in Shirley on Saturday, Suffolk police said.
The fire broke out at the Smith Road home at around 12:38 p.m., and one person was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of a minor injury, according to police.
In a post to Facebook, Brookhaven Fire Department officials said that the chief, captain and a passing member were first on scene within minutes and they "were met with flames engulfing the front and back of the house."

The Mastic Fire Department worked to extinguish "the rapidly growing fire while multiple Brookhaven units were arriving," and the fire was brought under control by 3 p.m., Brookhaven fire officials said.
Two firefighters were evaluated at the scene by EMS for heat exhaustion, the department said.

In addition to Brookhaven and Mastic, firefighters from Mastic Beach, Bellport, Yaphank, and Brookhaven National Laboratory, Center Moriches, and Ridge also responded. EMS agencies included Mastic, Mastic Beach, and South Country, according to Suffolk Fire Photos.
Several roads in the area were closed for about three hours while firefighters worked at the scene.
The fire is one of three fires that detectives are probing from over the weekend.
The fires include one at a business in Holbrook on Saturday, and another at a home in East Setauket.
