UPDATE: Coram Man Charged With Arson In Connection To Blaze At Neighbor's Home: Police

He is scheduled for arraignment today in Central Islip, Suffolk police say.

UPDATE 12:12 p.m.: A Coram man for setting fire to a home in Suffolk last night, according to police

According to Suffolk County police, officers responded to a report of a fire at 23 Glenmere Lane in Corman at 11:45 p.m. A man and woman, who lived in the home, got out safely, police said, adding that the Coram Fire Department and multiple other fire departments responded to extinguish the blaze, police said.

Following an investigation, arson section detectives arrested and charged a neighbor, Altariq Nixon, 43, with second-degree arson, police said.

He was scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip Friday.

Video from the scene showed fire crews battling intense flames while heavy smoke billowed into the air, and later Friday morning, a Suffolk police canine could be seen searching the property, News 12 reported.

The investigation is continuing, police said. Further details were not immediately available.

The American Red Cross provided emergency assistance at the scene, a spokesperson said.
