Drunken Driver Flees After Striking School Bus, Trailer: Cops

The woman then punched a good Samaritan who had confronted her in a Long Island movie theater parking lot, police say.

MASTIC, NY – A 36-year-old woman was arrested on DWI and hit-and-run charges after she struck a school bus and then a trailer in Mastic Friday morning, police said.

According to Suffolk Police, Luz Maria Fuentes was driving a 2004 Toyota Siena on Mastic Road, near Mastic Boulevard, when the minivan struck the rear of a mini school bus with three children and two adults on board at about 7:45 a.m.

Fuentes fled and, a short time later, her vehicle struck a trailer that was attached to a pickup truck traveling on Mastic Road, police said. Fuentes fled once again, police said. No one was hurt in the crashes.

A good Samaritan followed Fuentes to the parking lot of Island Cinemas, located at 1708 Montauk Highway, and confronted her. Fuentes punched the man in the face, police said.

Seventh Precinct officers responded and charged Fuentes, of Mastic, with DWI, harassment and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident. She will be held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.
