Freeze Watch Issued For Portion of Long Island

LONG ISLAND, NY — October was the second warmest October ever recorded at Long Island MacArthur Airport with an average temperature of 61 degrees. We are headed back to reality to kick off November with a freeze watch issued for part of the island.

A freeze watch will be in effect from midnight Wednesday until 8 a.m. Thursday for the South Fork. Near-freezing temperatures as low as 32 degrees are possible.

"Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold," the National Weather Service says. "To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing."

Tuesday Afternoon- A slight chance of sprinkles before 5pm, then a chance of showers with a slight chance of sprinkles after 5pm. Cloudy, with a high near 57. West wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday Night- A 30 percent chance of showers before 11pm. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 40. Northwest wind around 7 mph.

Wednesday- Sunny, with a high near 52. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph.

Wednesday Night- Patchy frost after 2am. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 35. North wind around 7 mph.

Thursday- Areas of frost before 9am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 52. Light northeast wind.

Thursday Night- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40.

Friday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 52.

Friday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 39.

Saturday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 53.

Saturday Night- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 42.

Sunday- Partly sunny, with a high near 54.
