Lawsuit Filed Over Long Island Teen's Death From Police Cruiser Strike: Report

LONG ISLAND, NY — The mother of a Long Island teenager, who succumbed to injuries he sustained from a police cruiser responding to a 911 call that struck him on his bicycle, has filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against the county, Newsday reported.
Shirley resident Claudia Stinson, whose son, Anthony, was struck as he rode his bicycle across William Floyd Parkway near his home in September 2023, alleges the Suffolk police officer was speeding and she is seeking better training for officers, according to the outlet.
The New York Attorney General’s office, the agency that reviews deaths involving police personnel, has been investigating the crash for 14 months, the outlet reported.

A spokesperson for Suffolk police said the agency would not be commenting on the lawsuit.
