Long Island HS Track Star Sues To Compete In State Championship: Report
A Feb. 18 ruling prevents the 6-time champion from competing after she ran against against college athletes, Newsday reported.

MASTIC BEACH, NY — Six-time state championship track star from William Floyd High School, Zariel Macchia, is suing for her right to appeal a ruling that prevents her from competing for the rest of the indoor track and field season after she competed against college runners last month, Newsday reported.
The New York Public High School Athletic Association's Feb. 18 ruling would prevent Macchia, 18, from competing in Staten Island in the state championship meet on Saturday where she has qualified for the 1,000- and 3,000-meter races, according to the outlet.
The lawsuit, which seeks a temporary restraining order allowing her to compete, says the NYSPHSAA's decision "was arbitrary and capricious" and that if the "court declines to order the temporary immediate relief" she will "suffer irreparable harm which cannot be remedied at a later date," the outlet reported.
