Local Lawmakers Celebrate Mastic Resident's 99th Birthday

On February 13, Supervisor Ed Romaine (left) and Councilman Dan Panico (right) visited the Mastic Recreation Center to celebrate Gertrude “Gertie” Haas’s (center) 99th birthday. A resident of Mastic Beach since 1996, Gertie was born in Brooklyn on February 13, 1924. She married her husband John on Christmas Eve 1943. They were married for 57 years and blessed with 3 daughters, 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Family and friends say that Gertie has a wonderful sense of humor, a sweet smile and is always willing to give a hug. She loves to play Bingo and cards, especially poker. During their visit with Gertie, Supervisor Romaine and Councilman Panico presented her with a proclamation from the Brookhaven Town Board naming February 13, 2023 as Gertrude Hass Day in the Town of Brookhaven.
