Long Island Couple Need Funds 'Fast' For 6-Month-Old Kitten's Surgery
"Please help up save Ash so she can continue to run around and enjoy being herself." - Mae Jensen

MASTIC-SHIRLEY, NY — A Long Island couple is appealing to the public in a GoFundMe to help them pay for surgery to repair the broken leg of their energetic six-month-old kitten that was injured.
When "Ashley" was adopted from a shelter at two months old, she was terrified of everything, but soon came out of her shell, and blossomed with energy bursts, and fits of climbing always doing something funny, her owner, said Mae Jensen, who lives in the Mastic-Shirley area.
"One day we came home I instantly knew something was wrong because she normally greets me with loud meows and snuggles," she said. "When I saw her, she was curled up in her bed and didn't move from her spot when she saw me."

Jensen ran to her side to see what was going on and noticed a small scrape on her back leg, so she performed a small exam by applying small pressure and feeling around to see if anything she felt was off.

She and her boyfriend thought it was a sprain, so they waited to call their vet in the morning, but then she showed signs of getting better — she was still eating and drinking and walking around with only a small limp.

After a week, she noticed that she wasn't getting any better so she made a vet appointment for her and it was later discovered that her hip broke in the socket and she needs surgery. If she does not have the surgery, her leg will loose more muscle and she will need an amputation.
Both Jensen and her boyfriend are out of work and unable to pay for the surgery, she said.
The pair have no one to help them out, so they had to resort to starting a GoFundMe, according to Jensen.
So far, the GoFunMe Page has raised about $160 toward its $5,000 goal.
"We need help and fast," Jensen wrote. "Please help up save Ash so she can continue to run around and enjoy being herself."
