Coach Megna was named the “Mike Bowler Man of the Year” in 2024 by the Suffolk County Coaches Association, which recognized him for displaying integrity, morals, kindness, honesty, compassion and a love for the game of lacrosse.

The award, which is named for Mike Bowler, the longtime Rocky Point School District coach who died in 2019 after a long and storied career as a coach, teacher, and mentor.

Megna said it means a lot to win 100 games in the sport.

“We have garnered a solid reputation in the lacrosse world, one of hard-working young men that play the game the right way and always represent themselves and our community with pride," he said. "I’m proud to be part of that."

The season is extra special because many of his student-athletes this year are from Moriches Elementary School, where he serves as a 5th-grade teacher, he said.

He thanked his strong coaching staff of James Lollo, Jordan Carlock, and Victor Olivero, for their efforts day in and day out and expressed gratitude to the William Floyd Athletic Department for its continued support, Coster for his unwavering support of him, the athletic program, and the Board of Education for always "putting kids first."

He also thanked the parents of his student-athletes, including Tammy Blankenship, Barbara Bilotti, Lisa Cacioppo and Suzanne Fox, and many others, along with his wife, Kellie Megna, and son, Greyson, for their "tremendous support."

Next up for the Colonials is an away game at Huntington on Monday before they come back home to battle Brentwood on Wednesday.
