New Snow Total Estimates, Storm Timing, For Long Island

Hazardous conditions could impact the Monday evening commute. See the latest forecast.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Snow is expected to begin falling across Long Island by noon and it could lead to a messy Monday evening commute.

Snow total estimates have increased slightly to 1-4 inches, with the highest amounts likely along the South Shore in Suffolk County. A winter weather advisory will be in effect from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. for most of Suffolk.

"There will be a sharp cutoff of precipitation just over or immediately south of the area," the weather service said. "Guidance has shown this sharp gradient consistently but has struggled with both the snowfall amounts and the exact placement of the gradient."
