- Pedestrian Frank Brandimarte, 59, was fatally struck on Monday night while crossing William Floyd Parkway at 9:30 p.m. A Honda Civic was traveling southbound, driven by Aristides Baires, when fatally hit Brandimarte, who died at the scene. (News12)
- The Gateway Playhouse is putting on a bubble magic show with the "Bubble troublemaker" Jeff Boyer. Bring the kiddos to enjoy it on Friday, Aug. 19, at 10 a.m. (Patch Events)
- Suffolk police on the path to restoring gunshot detection technology to the Shirley and Mastic Beach community. Legislature Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison said the police would be able to respond to shootings incidents quickly with the device's support. (Patch)
