  1. MMS Community Library is hosting a "Night of the Shooting Stars" with Joe Rao via Zoom. The event is set for May 17 at 7 p.m. "Joe Rao was an 8-time Emmy-nominated broadcast meteorologist and Science Editor for News 12 Westchester/Hudson Valley." (Patch)
  2. Mastic Sports Club will host a pancake breakfast and Chinese auction at Applebee's located at 855 Montauk Highway in Shirley. The girl's softball team sells the tickets for $10 each for breakfast. (Patch)

  • First responders rescued three dogs and multiple cats from a home that broke into flames in Shirley. On Thursday, the fire happened at Probst Drive at 1:15 p.m. Firefighters broke through a glass door to rescue the pets hiding under furniture. Police confirm all animals were brought to safety.   • Dr. Frederick Miller was recognized in the 2022 Veterans Hall of Fame. Miller created a Peer-to-Peer program in 2014 at his post-1533 in Mastic Beach that grew and became a Suffolk County program. Congratulations, Dr. Miller! (Facebook)
  • Make-A-Wish Suffolk County, NY: "Nicole is a powerful little princess. When she lost her eye after her cancer diagnosis, she chose different color eye patches to embrace it." (Instagram)
