  1. First responders rescued three dogs and multiple cats from a home that broke into flames in Shirley. On Thursday, the fire happened at Probst Drive at 1:15 p.m. Firefighters broke through a glass door to rescue the pets hiding under furniture. Police confirm all animals were brought to safety. (Patch)
  2. Dr. Frederick Miller was recognized in the 2022 Veterans Hall of Fame. Miller created a Peer-to-Peer program in 2014 at his post 1533 in Mastic Beach that grew and became a Suffolk County program. Congratulations, Dr. Miller! (Facebook)
  3. The William Floyd High School Science Honor Society (SHS) has been hosting science experiments for the WFSD elementary school students via Zoom. The virtual event is led by science teacher Anya Swiss and SHS members. (Patch)
  4. Good news to students on Long Island! Simons Foundation gifted Stony Brook University with $56.6 million in grants to be invested in STEM careers to benefit underrepresented students. As a result, the university announced the creation of 50 scholarships with an expanding potential. (Patch)
