Teens Arrested After Crashing Stolen Car Into LI Home: Police

Two teen boys were arrested over the weekend after crashing a stolen car into a home on Long Island, Suffolk County police say.

MASTIC, NY — Two 16-year-old males were arrested on Sunday after crashing a stolen car into a home on Long Island, according to Suffolk County police.

Police said officers in an unmarked police vehicle observed a 2014 Kia Optima that had been reported stolen earlier that day at the intersection of Mastic Road and Patchogue Avenue in Mastic Beach at around 4:30 p.m.

When marked patrol units arrived, the Kia fled, and minutes later crashed into a home on Washington Avenue, police said.

The driver was apprehended as he attempted to flee the scene on foot while the only passenger remained in the vehicle, police said.

Both boys were transported to NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk in Patchogue for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and there were no other reported injuries, police said.

The boys, who are not being identified due to their age, were arrested and charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, police said.

They were issued Field Appearance Tickets and will be arraigned at the Youth Part of First District Court in Central Islip on a later date, police said.

The Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshall assessed structural damage to the residence and the Kia was impounded, police said.
