WFHS Students Honored At Black History Month Celebration

Earlier this month, sixteen William Floyd High School seniors were honored for their continued academic success at the 32nd annual Black History Night Celebration hosted by the Town of Brookhaven Black History Commission. Students were chosen for achieving a cumulative grade point average of 90 or higher!

The recipients, Aaliyah Brown, Matthania Charles, Kiara Cheese, Imani Dendy, Dylan Harris, Landon Jones, Aiden Mehmel, Katelyn Mensah, Jada Minter, Nicholas Rizzitello, Amerie Samura, Joel Simpson, Trinity Tarrao, Bryanna Walker, Rodney Williams and Fitzgerald Williamson, Jr., were recognized along with 78 other students from 14 other school districts in Brookhaven Town. William Floyd students accounted for more than 17 percent of all students honored at this celebration.

“It was a wonderful event honoring our scholars,” said Philip Scotto, principal, William Floyd High School, who attended the event with the honorees. “I’m proud of their hard work and achievements and know they will all accomplish great things in the future.”

The Town of Brookhaven Black History Commission is an organization designed to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions of Black Americans, both nationally and locally, while fostering an appreciation of Black culture and heritage in the younger generation. At the celebration, students had the opportunity to meet their peers from school districts across Brookhaven Town, as well as enjoy musical performances, cultural food tasting, art exhibits and more.
