What's The Scoop? To Open At Former Ralph's Famous Italian Ices In Shirley On Thursday

The former owner of Ben & Jen's returns with her passion for ice cream. "We're a homemade scoop shop — that's the core of our business."

SHIRLEY, NY — The new ice cream parlor, What's the Scoop?, is set to open at the former spot held by Ralph's Famous Italian Ices in Shirley on Thursday, and it's not the first time for the owner, Jena Termini.

Termini owned a similar homemade ice cream parlor at the same location, which was called Ben and Jen's, from 1999 until selling the business in 2003. The location has been shuttered since a fire at Ralph's in 2018.

Just like its predecessors, What's the Scoop? will be takeout only.

"There's no seating inside, but we own the property next to it, so we did set up these beautiful park benches," Termini told Patch on Wednesday, adding that "people can actually sit outside and enjoy their treat outside."

But the shop's "big thing" is its homemade ice cream.

"We're a homemade scoop shop — that's the core of our business," she said.

In addition to regular ice cream, there will also be no sugar-added ice cream and non-dairy ice cream.

There will also be Italian ices, ice cream pies, and novelties like cartwheels and dip cones, as well as chocolate and candy sold in bulk by the pound.

The business will also sell popsicle boxes and cartwheel packs.

There will be specialty cakes and pies with ingredients such as cookie dough, cookies and cream, Reese's Pieces, M&Ms, and vanilla and chocolate crunchies.

Customers will also be able to place a specialized order with 48 hours' notice.

"My passion is ice cream, so I enjoy what I do," Termini said. "I love to manufacture. I love to produce."

What's the Scoop? will be open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
