Man Arrested After Machete Attack At Flanders Home: Police

One person sustained multiple injuries, police say.

FLANDERS, NY — A man was hospitalized after a machete attack in Flanders recently, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place at 11:26 p.m. on March 30 on Point Road. Officers responded to the location after a report of a person with a knife, police said.

James Robinson, 59, was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, intent to cause physical injuy with a weapon/instrument; and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, previous conviction, police said.

When officers arrived, the man reported he'd had an argument inside the residence at about 11:20 p.m., police said. He told officers that Robinson heard the argument and walked downstairs with a machete, police said.

The man and Robinson then walked outside, and Robinson hit the man with the machete multiple times, causing multiple lacerations to his arms, police said.

The man said Robinson then ran inside the home and called 911; when officers arrived, the machete-wielder was taken into custody and brought to Southampton Town police headquarters for processing, police said.

The man was transported to Peconic Medical Center for further treatment, police said.
