2 From the Bronx Accused Of Stealing Mail From Boxes In Putnam

The men were found in possession of multiple checks, Putnam County Sheriff Kevin McConville said.

PHILIPSTOWN, NY — Two men are accused of stealing mail from household mailboxes in Continental Village.

A resident called the Putnam County Sheriff's Office July 10 to report that they witnessed a stranger take mail from their mailbox on Steuben Road. They gave a description of the subject and the vehicle, Sheriff Kevin J. McConville reported.

A deputy was dispatched to the area and saw the vehicle, at which time he made a traffic stop. Numerous pieces of mail were located in the vehicle, McConville said.

Deputies arrested Devonte A. Hamilton and Kadon J. Jackson, both 22 and both of the Bronx.

Hamilton was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, petty larceny, criminal impersonation, unlawful possession of personal identification, aggregated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and numerous vehicle and traffic violations.

Jackson was charged with petty larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and unlawful possession of personal identification.

The investigation is ongoing, and Sheriff's Office Investigators have consulted with the United States Postal Inspectors and are working with other law enforcement agencies to identify additional victims, as the men were found in possession of multiple checks, McConville said.
