74-Year-Old Victim In Fatal Route 9 Crash Identified By Sheriff

A southbound vehicle crossed into the northbound lanes and was struck by a tractor-trailer, according to authorities.

GARRISON, NY — A Beacon man has been identified as the driver killed in Friday's fatal collision.

Putnam County Sheriff Kevin J. McConville says that the crash took place on Route 9 in the town of Philipstown.

Around 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Putnam County 911 received several calls about a motor vehicle accident on Route 9, south of Route 403 in the Garrison area.

Members of the Sheriff's Office, the Garrison and Continental Village Fire Departments, the Garrison Volunteer Ambulance, and Empress Emergency Medical Services all responded to the scene.

A preliminary investigation, with the help of the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, found that a southbound vehicle driven by 74-year-old Norton Segarra, of Beacon, crossed into the northbound lanes and was struck by a tractor-trailer.

Segarra was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck, 60-year-old Glen Cochran of Milford, Connecticut, was taken to Westchester Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The road remained closed until 9:30 p.m. on Friday.

The sheriff says that the investigation into the cause is ongoing.
