Adopt A Derby Duck, Help Putnam CCE Build Home At Tilly Foster Farm

The Putnam County Fair hosts the annual Duck Derby at 2 p.m. Sunday as a weekend of fun winds down.

PUTNAM COUNTY — The Putnam County Fair and 4-H Showcase, an annual celebration with exhibits, demonstrations, animal showmanship, crafts, activities, entertainment, food trucks, fun inflatables, and games for kids, will be held this weekend July 27-28.

The event at the fairgrounds on Gipsy Trail Road in Carmel culminates with the third annual Duck Derby hosted by Cornell Cooperative Extension Putnam County. The winner receives cash and prizes valued at $350.

"Adopt" a duck or two now! It's for a good cause: CCEPC is raising money to build a new home at Tilly Foster Farm, a project that was expected to cost $750,000. All the proceeds from the Duck Derby support the Capital Campaign.

Ducks are $5 each, or a pack of five for $20, a dozen for just $40 and 25 for $75. You must be an adult 18 year of age or older to "adopt" any.

The "competition" will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday. You need NOT be present to win; the winner will be notified.

In fact, your duck ticket numbers will be held at the duck booth from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday and can be picked up during that time. The booth will close on Sunday at 1 p.m.

You will also receive your numbers via email prior to the event, which can be used to claim your prize.

There are plenty more reasons to go to the fair.

Bands including Not Tuna, Dawgs Who Can Read, 1/3 of Sophie, The Kids in the Basement, North Star, The Society and the Guardian “ENCORE” will take the stage. The NY Cruisers Car Show will take place on Saturday (rain date: Sunday) and Guardian Revival will showcase their Boots & Paws program on Sunday.

The Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardener volunteers will host an “Ask a Master Gardener Booth,” as well as staff educational displays.

The Trailblazers 4-H Club will give archery demonstrations for the public, the 4-H STEAM Teens will be doing a variety of STEAM demos including a SPHERO Robot Obstacle Course and the Tall Oaks 4-H Horse Club will show off their horsemanship skills all day Sunday.
