Brewster Cops: Attempted Intrusion Not Likely Linked to Peaceable Cases
Authorities have received reports of two thefts that occurred in unlocked vehicles earlier this week.

Officials do not believe the person responsible for an attempted intrusion at a Garden Street home earlier this week is connected to other incidents in the area.
Brewster Police Chief John Del Gardo said it is unlikely the case is tied to last month's Peaceable Hill burglary and theft. Officials have yet to announce an arrest there.
Del Gardo also doubts a connection to the New Fairfield assault and burglary that occurred Tuesday.

One item that has led him to the conclusions is a lack of matching description between the subjects. BPD believes the person who attempted to enter the Garden Street home 2 a.m. Monday is a white man of average or thin build, with light coloring, in his late teens or early 20s. He reportedly stands at about 6-feet-3, and police believe he was wearing a gray, hooded sweatshirt at the time of the incident.
Officials confirmed to Patch Thursday that no items were missing from the residents, who heard the sound of someone shaking the door handle. When one of them went outside to investigate, a family member's purse—which had been sitting in an unlocked car—was on the sidewalk.

Del Gardo said he has received complaints of thefts that occurred Monday and Tuesday night in unlocked vehicles in the Prospect Street area. A small amount of money, in coins, was reported stolen in both incidents.
Brewster Police are urging residents to keep both house and vehicle doors locked. They also suggest leaving a light on in the front and rear of a home. Suspicious activity should be reported to 911, Del Gardo said.
