BREWSTER, NY — Brewster student Elias Arias Tlaczani, who attends BOCES Career and Technical Education Center, was recognized as a Student of Distinction during the Brewster Central School District Board of Education meeting on Tuesday.
Elias is a student in the Carpentry program, a class that demands precision, deftness, and close attention to detail as well as careful following of safety protocols. Elias excels in every area of the program, according to his teacher Jon Farrell.

“Elias is a great student,” Mr. Farrell says. “He arrives early to class and is always the first to take down all the stools and prepare the classroom for the day. He really wants to get right to work and shows tremendous interest in all of his projects.”
According to Farrell, carpentry involves precise measuring, cutting, and uniformity, and “Elias is incredibly serious and responsible about his work. He always stays on task doing projects, which is something that is particularly important in woodworking. “I see big things in Elias’s future.”

“I used to love making arts and crafts, and carpentry is the same, just on a larger scale,” said Elias, “I can fix things around the house and I can definitely see myself pursuing this as a career.”
For his dedication to his craft, hard work, and professional attitude, Elias is a perfect choice for Student of Distinction.
PNW BOCES Assistant Superintendent Dr. Lynn Allen, Principal Mike Sowul and the team from BOCES were joined by Brewster Superintendent Dr. Laurie Bandlow as well as Brewster board members in honoring Elias.
