Brewster School Board Considers Capital Project
Community Encouraged to Attend Presentations

A 20-member Facilities Planning Task Force appointed by the Brewster Central School District two years ago has completed a comprehensive analysis of the district’s facilities needs. The district’s architects, Fuller & D’Angelo Architects & Planners, and construction managers, Triton Construction, will present proposals for a capital improvement project to the Board of Education at the November 22, 2022 school board meeting. The project will address high priority infrastructure and safety/security needs for students and staff in the district.
“The proposal supports the Brewster Vision 2026 Strategic Planning objective of a dynamic learning environment that is safe and allows for optimal learning conditions and opportunities to develop individual strengths that lead to post-secondary success,” said Superintendent Dr. Laurie Bandlow.
“The district's goal, as always, is to ensure that we provide a meaningful and appropriate learning experience for every student at all grade levels,” said Board of Education President Kerry Cunningham. “With the community’s support, our present financial situation allows us to consider how best to improve and expand our facilities to match our ongoing commitment to maintaining appropriate class sizes, and to provide a variety of improved spaces.”

“For the better part of the past two years, the district has been evaluating its facilities needs in partnership with construction professionals, staff members, and community members who serve on the district's Facilities Planning Task Force and Finance Committee,” said Assistant Superintendent Victor Karlsson. “This slow and deliberate process has allowed the district to gather important feedback from community stakeholders, both in terms of educational aspirations and financial constraints. We look forward to finalizing this cooperative and transparent process throughout the next several months.”
The district encourages all community members to learn more about the projects under consideration as the Board of Education begins to prioritize the final scope of the capital improvement project bond to be presented to voters for a March 21, 2023 referendum.
