Brewster Woman Charged With Driving While Impaired

Besa Ukaj was arrested after her car crossed the double yellow lines twice and she continued to speed, police said.
The 21-year-old Brewster resident was clocked driving 58 miles per hour in a 40-mph-zone in Bedford at approximately 4 a.m. Sunday, according to authorities. After officers observed her erratic driving, they stopped and interviewed her.
Ukaj told officials she had one beer. Police said they smelled alcohol on her breath and noticed her glassy eyes. They administered field sobriety tests, which Ukaj failed. During their investigation they found an opened bottle of Smirnoff's peach vodka in her car.

She was arrested and brought to police headquarters for processing. She submitted to a chemical test which reportedly revealed a .06 blood-alcohol level. She was charged with several violations: driving while ability impaired, passing in a no-passing zone, speeding and consuming alcoholic beverages.
Ukaj was released without bail pending a return to town court.
