Cooking Fire Leads to 'Total Loss' in Carmel

A Carmel home sustained smoke and water damage after a cooking fire started Monday morning.

Firefighters from Brewster, Carmel, Lake Carmel and Mahopac responded to the Kings Grant townhouse at about 11:10 a.m. It took them about 15 minutes to get the fire under control, Carmel fire chief Bob Lipton told Patch.

The flames were contained to the dining room and kitchen area but the smoke and water damage made it "a total loss," Lipton said.

The family got out of the residence and no one was injured.
