County: Clear Roads, 2 Shelters

The Putnam County Emergency Management team sent several messages via NY-Alert (the state's online communication system), Friday. Here are some important notes:

• Two shelters (neither offers food or shower facilities) are available Friday night: The William Koehler Memorial Senior Center at 180 Route 6 in Mahopac (845-808-1734 or 845-808-4000) and the Putnam Valley Senior Center at 117 Town Park Lane (845-808-1730). They run from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., at which point the buildings transition back to comfort stations where folks can charge electronics, pick up dry ice and water, and warm up. 
• The 845-808-4000 county telephone line is not working. Folks attempting to contact any Putnam County Government Office should call the Sheriff's Department at (845) 225-4300.
• As of 8 a.m. Friday, 66 roads remained closed because of down trees and wires. The total was 129 at the height of the storm. Later in the day, elected leaders said "100 percent of Putnam County's county and state Roads are opened. Putnam County will also assist in getting any town roads cleared as requested."
• County officials have been in touch with both Central Hudson and New York State Electric and Gas regarding power restorations. A notice sent shortly before 3 p.m. stated "42 percent of Putnam County residents are still without power, down from the peak of 80 percent on Oct. 30."
