Felony Arrest After Car Buyer Tried To Use A Fake Identity: Sheriff

When he returned to the Southeast dealership to complete the sale, investigators caught the suspect filling out paperwork with a fake name.

TOWN OF SOUTHEAST, NY — A car enthusiast's plan to buy a car using a fake name was foiled when the dealership became suspicious, according to the sheriff.

Putnam County Sheriff Kevin J. McConville said that on April 5, investigators received a report about the "suspicious subject" who was attempting to purchase a vehicle valued at over $68,000 at a Town of Southeast car dealership, while trying to conceal his true identity.

On April 12, they were notified that the suspect had returned and was attempting to complete the sale using a fictitious name.

Investigators responded to the scene and saw the suspect filling out paperwork using the fake name and took him into custody, officials said.

David Koraca, 57, of Somers, was taken to the Sheriff's Office where he admitted to using a false name to conceal his identity, according to authorities.

He was charged with felony second-degree attempted grand larceny, second-degree falsifying business records, and two counts of misdemeanor seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Koraca was arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility due to multiple prior felony convictions, authorities said.
