Funeral for Carmel Woman, 90, Is Friday

Editor's note: Beecher Funeral Home provided this obituary.

Ware, Lillian L. ‘Lill’, age 90, of Carmel, formerly of Brewster, died peacefully at Putnam Ridge Nursing Home on Sunday.

Lillian was born May 13, 1923 in Bridgeport, CT to Benedict and Rose (Welden) Hayes. She was a 1941 graduate of Central High School in Bridgeport and started work following high school with General Electric in Bridgeport.

On Dec. 29, 1942 Lillian married Charles E. Ware in Fort Wayne, Indiana prior to his deployment overseas with the US Army. Mr. Ware died March 24, 1993.

Lillian was also a teacher’s aide at the Garden Street School in Brewster, having been a resident of Brewster since 1954. She had lived in Carmel for the past 16 years.

Through the years, Lill made many trips by car across the United States with her family as she loved to admire the scenery throughout. She also enjoyed search-a-word puzzles and was a mall walker at the Danbury Fair Mall since 1989. She had been a member of the First United Methodist Church of Brewster since 1957, where she was a longtime Sunday school teacher and organizer of many a church activity. Lill could always be counted on for her delectable baked goods as well as being known as an excellent seamstress.

Family was the center of Lillian’s life; the love she had for her children, grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren was evident by the collection of photo memories and stuffed animals that adorned her home and the many stories she shared. Recently she celebrated her 90th birthday at Putnam Ridge Nursing Home with 65 friends and family members. What a grand day.

Lillian is survived by her three children, Lorraine Brown and husband Billy of Brewster; Charles Ware, Jr. and his wife Patty of San Leandro, CA; Richard Ware and his wife Rosemarie of Port Orange, FL; eight grandchildren, Rodd, Darryl, Marc, Julie, Cyndi, Loren, Erin, and Jessica; 11 great grandchildren, Amanda, Jack, Meghan, Grace, Jeffrey, Harold, Joey, Hailey, Robert, Francesca and Steven; and one great-great granddaughter, Amaya. She was predeceased by her son Larry T. Ware on March 24, 1974 and a daughter, Cindy Woelfle on June 26, 2003.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday (June 14) at the First United Methodist Church of Brewster (83 Main Street in Brewster). Interment will follow at Milltown Rural Cemetery in Brewster. Friends may call at the Beecher Funeral Home (1 Putnam Avenue in Brewster, beecherfuneralhome.come) from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday from 4 to 8 PM.

Contributions in Lill’s memory may be made to First United Methodist Church of Brewster.
