Guns Found In Car With Texas Plates, 3 Michigan Men Charged: Carmel PD

MAHOPAC, NY – Three Michigan residents were arrested Saturday after a traffic stop by Carmel Police, accused of illegally possessing four handguns.

At about 3 p.m., officers observed a blue Nissan SUV with a Texas registration fail to signal while turning onto State Rt. 6N from Mahopac Plaza, police said. The officers initiated a traffic stop shortly thereafter and identified the three occupants as Dillon M. Whipple 27, of August, MI, Jose M. Riojas 54, of Cement City, MI and Tyler M. Williams, 30, of Bridgman, MI.

At the scene, police recovered one loaded handgun from the waistband of one of the passengers and three more loaded handguns from inside the car.

All three men were taken into custody and transported to CPD headquarters for processing. They were arraigned and sent to the Putnam County Correctional Facility on $500 cash bail or $1,000 secured bond each.

Whipple faces a felony charge of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and a misdemeanor charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.

Riojas faces two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

Williams was charged with one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
