Motorcycle Chase On Route 6 Ends In Brewster Man's Arrest: Police

At one point, Carmel police had to stop pedestrians and valet parking attendants from crossing the road in Mahopac.

CARMEL, NY — A 23-year-old Brewster man faces charges connected to an incident Saturday on Route 6.

At 7:45 p.m. Saturday, Officer DeSantola observed a motorcycle traveling southwest at an unsafe speed on State Route 6 in Mahopac. The motorcycle sped through an area busy with vehicular and pedestrian traffic — there was an event at Villa Barone — where a uniformed police officer was in the roadway to help people cross safely.

PO DeSantola tried to stop the motorcycle, which instead fled.

The motorcycle continued at a fast rate of speed through the area and kept going.

Additional officers from Carmel Police joined the pursuit.

The motorcycle became disabled near Reed Memorial Library, when the operator attempted to make a u-turn on the front yard of a residence and the motorcycle got stuck in the wet grass, police said.

Kevin Espanavanegas was arrested without accident or injury, police said.

He was issued three criminal charges for reckless driving, reckless endangerment and unlawful fleeing a police officer. Additionally, he was issued 19 traffic summonses for violations committed throughout the pursuit. He was processed and released with a future court date.
