Opportunities Of The Week: Youth Clothing Drive, Soup Kitchen, Fairs

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

This week we are putting the spotlight on some opportunities hand-selected by our friends at Volunteer New York! All opportunities can be found at https://www.volunteernewyork.org.

Soup Kitchen and Dinner Service
Volunteers are needed in the Hope Community Services soup kitchen to pack and serve to-go meals as well as assist with the indoor dinner service. Volunteers will prepare to-go dinners, serve them to the clients, and assist in clean up after dinner.
Date: 9/9-9/30 from 4:15-6 p.m.; weekdays

New Rochelle Street Fair
Volunteers are needed to set up the annual street fair, designate vendor spots, assist in the vendor and entertainment check-in area, direct vendors to their designated parking, and welcome guests.

Mount Vernon CityFest
Mount Vernon CityFest offers vendors, stage performances, and family-friendly activities for the community and citizens of Mount Vernon. Volunteers are needed to provide support for vendors, including directing them to their designated tabling areas.

Fall Community Cleanups
The Town of Rye is looking for volunteers to assist in cleaning up various sites around the community. Volunteers will pick up trash and debris and clear invasive vines using their own supplies. Volunteers are asked to bring trash-grabbers, gloves, pruners, trowels, shears, spades, and anything else that may help them with the cleanup. Please wear closed-toe shoes, long pants, bug spray, and sunscreen, and bring your own filled, reusable hydration bottle.

Youth Clothing Drive
The Finkelstein Library, in collaboration with the Teen Library Council, is hosting a clothing swap and it needs donated clothing in order to make the event a success! Volunteers are asked to donate clothing for all youth ages (infants/toddlers, children, teens, and some adult clothing), including pajamas, coats, shoes, and Halloween costumes. Items must be clean, unstained, unripped, and odorless.
