A 23-year-old Patterson man is facing misdemeanor and felony charges in connection with the theft of a debit card, officials said.
"In July of this year, a Patterson resident called the Sheriff’s Office reporting that his identity had been compromised and used in getting an unauthorized debit card," the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said in a statement. "The fraudulent debit card had been unlawfully used in Patterson to withdraw cash from an ATM machine."
Investigator Thomas Corless took the case and Edward J. Hussey, Jr. was initially arrested in July, on a misdemeanor charge of third-degree identify theft.
The ongoing investigation led to an additional charge: felony fourth-degree grand larceny, as authorities believe he obtained the card under false pretenses in Southeast. Police arrested Hussey on the second charge at about 11 a.m. Sept. 21 at his Old Route 22 home.
The defendant—who was the subject of a bench warrant in Patterson because he allegedly failed to show for court for the identity theft charge—was arraigned and sent to the Putnam County Correctional Facility on $20,000 cash or $50,000 bond bail.
