PILS Hosted the First Annual Accessible Restaurant Award Ceremony

Putnam Independent Living Services honored nine local restaurants that have taken steps to ensure that their establishments are accessible.

PILS was pleased to welcome recipients of their inaugural Accessible Restaurant Certificate Program award ceremony, hosted at their office in Brewster, NY on October 25, 2022. The nine local restaurants that met the criteria of offering delivery/curbside pick-up, maintaining an accessible dining area, and having ramps and/or no step entrances were:

  • Aversano’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria
  • Char Steakhouse and Bar
  • Florrie Kaye’s Tea Room
  • George’s Place
  • Mezza Luna Pizzeria and Restaurant
  • Mike & Joe’s Wood Fired Pizza and Pasta
  • Putnam Diner and Restaurant
  • Sauro’s Town Square Pizza Café
  • Savor Ristorante and Bar

“We are really proud of this initiative to identify and promote restaurants that are accessible to all individuals,” said Joe Guagliano, Independent Living Advocate at PILS. “Putnam County is lucky to have these nine fantastic restaurants, and we aim increase that number during the next year.”

In the future, restaurants that would like to participate in this program can contact Joe Guagliano directly at jguagliano@wilc.org or (845) 228-7457 ext. 1105. Participation is beneficial for restaurants to receive advertising through the PILS website and newsletter, as well as a certificate to display in recognition.

Putnam Independent Living Services (PILS) is the Putnam County office of WILC (Westchester Independent Living Center). We are a not-for-profit, community-based, cross-disability resource, advocacy, and training center dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities. One of the original Independent Living Centers in New York State, WILC and PILS are part of a national association of Independent Living Centers that provide a wide spectrum of non-residential and non-medical services.

WILC first opened its doors in 1981. In 2002, WILC established a satellite office, Putnam Independent Living Services (PILS). PILS not only provides services in Putnam County, but it also facilitates WILC in servicing the northern part of WILC’s catchment area, i.e., northern Westchester, Dutchess, Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster counties.

PILS’s main office is located at 1441 Route 22, Suite 204 (Tompkins Mahopac Bank building), Brewster, New York 10509 with additional locations in White Plains and Yonkers.
