Putnam To Hold First Ever County Career Expo

As the job market continues to be tight in the region, some government positions have been unfilled for a year.

PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — The Putnam County government will host its first ever Career Exposition on Feb. 7, as the job market continues to be tight in the Hudson Valley.

The unemployment rate in Putnam as of November was just 3.2 percent, according to the New York State Labor Department.

"We have a number of vacancies across county departments that we’ve been trying to fill; some for almost a year," Putnam County Communications Director Christopher Formisano told Patch. "This is a great place to work, and we want folks to know there are opportunities to build a great career in County Government."

Jobseekers and those curious about working for the county are invited to explore employment opportunities. People are encouraged to bring their résumés. They will have an opportunity to speak with department representatives. Applications can be completed on the spot.

“This is a great opportunity for Putnam residents and individuals from surrounding communities to get some face time with potential employers and their foot in the door,” said County Executive Kevin Byrne, listing good benefits, competitive salaries, and a supportive and positive work environment. "We’re always looking for new talent and there’s a lot of great career paths offered.”

Several departments will be in attendance, including the County’s Bureau of Emergency Services, Department of Health, Department of Public Works, Office for Senior Resources, Department of Social Services and Mental Health, the Sheriff's Department, the County Clerk’s Office, and Department of Motor Vehicles — all of which currently have vacancies in their respective departments that need to be filled.

Personnel Department staff will also be present to discuss application and hiring processes, upcoming civil service examinations, and the professional and personal benefits of working for Putnam County Government.

Not all jobs require testing. These positions will be highlighted at the expo, including both full-time and part-time opportunities.

  • WHERE: Bureau of Emergency Services, 112 Old Route 6 in Carmel
  • WHEN: 3-7 p.m. Feb. 7. In the event of excessive snowfall, the Expo will be rescheduled for Feb. 28.
