Sheriff: Cars Demolished, 2 Hurt in Patterson Crash

Two people were injured in a head-on collision that occurred under a one-lane railroad bridge underpass on Route 164 in Patterson, officials say.

The accident occurred at about 2:15 p.m. Friday. Deputies from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office responded.

A 53-year-old Pleasant Valley man headed east—and speeding—entered the single-lane underpass, failing to yield the right-of-way to a 52-year-old Greentown, PA woman, who was westbound, Deputy Sheriff Andrew Kristan found.

"Both vehicles were demolished," the sheriff's office said in a statement posted Monday. "Fire and ambulance crews from Patterson and Lake Carmel responded to the scene, as well as a Transcare paramedic. Both drivers were transported to Danbury Hospital where they were treated and later released."

The investigation is ongoing.
