Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: Summer Study, Hospice

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

Summer Reading and Math Volunteers
STEM Alliance is seeking volunteers for its summer Reading Nook and Math Cave program, which helps students to build essential literacy and math skills. Volunteers will be grouped with up to four students in grades 1-4 and participate in reading or math activities. Educators and program staff will be on hand to provide support during the activities. This project is perfect for volunteers aged 16+.

Back-to-School Supplies Drive
Volunteers are needed to purchase and collect new school essentials to help students of all ages have a successful school year. Items needed include backpacks, colored pencils, binders, folders, calculators, and wireless headphones.

Hospice Office Volunteers
Hospice of Westchester is seeking volunteers to assist with various office tasks including filing, mailing, and related activities. Volunteers will receive hospice-focused and in-service training on health, confidentiality, ethics, and other areas, as well as complete a medical onboarding process and program entrance application. No specific skills are required beyond enthusiasm, a desire to give back to the community, and a willingness to be part of a great team. Volunteers must be 18+ and are asked to commit about 3 hours per week for a full year to ensure a valuable, rich experience for patients.
