2 Sunset Park Gang Members Convicted In 2014 Stabbing Death
They face 25 years to life in prison.

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — Two Sunset Park gang members face 25 years to life in prison after they were found guilty of stabbing a man to death and wounding his brother, the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office said.
Javier Ortiz, 35, and Martin Carillo, 36, of Sunset Park — along with two men from Bed-Stuy — were convicted of second-degree murder, robbery and other charges related to the 2014 stabbings of the man and his brother as they were walking home from work, according to the district attorney's office.
Ortiz, Carillo and the two other men, 28-year-old Carmello Bello and 34-year-old Miguel Bello, were members of the Ninos Malos gan, the district attorney's office said.

“The victims—two innocent and hard-working brothers—courageously stood up against a vicious attack that began as a robbery and ended with one brother’s tragic death," acting Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said in a press release. "These convictions ensure that these violent defendants are kept off of our streets.”
Juan Carlos Luna-Juarez and his brother were walking home from work in Bed-Stuy when the four men approached them and demanded money, the office said. The gang members "proceeded to repeatedly punch, kick, and stab the two victims," according to the office.

Luna-Juarez was stabbed 10 times and died of his injuries; his brother survived his injuries, the office said.
All four members of the gang were apprehended near the crime scene, the office said, and two of them had blood on their shirts that was found to have belonged to the victims. One man had a knife and two other knives were recovered from the crime scene, the office said.
The four men will be sentenced in April.
