79-Year-Old Sunset Park Woman Knocked Over by Bag Snatcher: NYPD

The elderly woman was robbed near 53rd Street and 4th Avenue, police say.

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — Police are looking for a man who robbed a 79-year-old woman walking in Sunset Park, causing her to fall and hit her head.

According to the NYPD, on Oct. 24, the woman was walking in the viscinity of 53rd Street and 4th Avenue at 6:50 a.m. when the man approached her from behind and grabbed her bag, causing her to fall down and hit her head.

The man then fled the scene. The woman was taken to Lutheran Medical Center for an examination.

Detectives describe the suspect as a Hispanic male with a light complexion. He is between 40 and 50 years old, and was last seen wearing dark jeans, a black leather jacket, and sneakers.

Sunset Park is patrolled by the NYPD's 72nd Precinct. Through Oct. 23, major crimes were collectively up about 2.5 percent in the precinct compared to the same period last year, though robberies had fallen, from 179 through Oct. 23 last year to 166 so far this year.
