SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — A 19-year-old Bath Beach man was arrested and charged Tuesday with attempted rape following an Oct. 22 assault on a woman near the R train's 25th Street stop, police said.

According to police, Bensabeur followed the 38-year-old victim after she exited the R train shortly after 10 p.m. He entered her apartment building with her, and attacked her between the first and second floor.

The woman sustained minor injuries and refused medical attention, police said.

The department has not identified the precise location of the attack. However, the NYPD said the crime occurred in the NYPD's 72nd Precinct, which patrols Sunset Park, South Slope and Windsor Terrace. Through Oct. 16, major crimes in the 72nd were collectively up 3.7 percent compared to the same period in 2015, according to official police statistics.

A total of 16 sexual assaults were recorded in the precinct through Oct. 16, compared to 18 during the same period last year.

Capt. Emmanuel Gonzalez, who leads the 72nd, recently told Patch that in 15 of those 16 instances, the victim knew the assailant. The exception involved a sexual assault caught on camera in Windsor Terrace this past June. That assailant remains at large.

The neighborhood coordination officers (NCOs) responsible for South Slope and Windsor Terrace will host their next community meeting on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. The meeting will take place at Good Shepherd Hall inside Holy Name Church, located at 245 Prospect Park West.
