Here are the top three stories in Sunset Park today:

  1. The victim of a Brooklyn subway shooting will be suing gunmaker Glock, which manufactured the gun used in the attack. The Brooklyn woman, Ilene Steur, 49, was among the 10 people shot during the attack on the N train in April. Steur plans to file a lawsuit in Brooklyn Federal Court on Tuesday, claiming the way Glock markets and distributes its guns is a “public nuisance” under state law and endangers public safety. (Audacy)
  2. The New York Department of State is hosting a public hearing at Brooklyn Borough Hall on Cease-and-Desist zones on Thursday, Jun. 9 at 6:30 p.m. These zones are designed to prevent real estate solicitation that targets private residences. The public hearing will enable DOS to continue collecting evidence and investigating whether a Cease-and-Desist zone is necessary. Brooklyn residents who wish to testify can email brooklynceaseanddesist@dos.ny.gov. (Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
  3. A push for Asian-plurality State Senate District has been successful, despite its controversial process. Community leaders in South Brooklyn who were behind this push say they are happy with how the district lines turned out for them now that the final maps have been released. The new boundaries of State Senate District 17 — stretching from Greenwood Cemetery through Sunset Park down to Bensonhurst and Bath Beach, plus a lick of Bay Ridge — are the result of a lengthy, controversial, and complicated back-and-forth redistricting process.
