ICYMI: Ice From Snow Plow Shatters Sunset Park Windows, Residents Say
The Department of Sanitation says it is investigating the incident.
SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — Residents of a building in Sunset Park say they had their windows shatter by chunks of ice that were flung off of the elevated Gowanus Expressway by city snowplows.
Neighbors told the television station that snow hitting their windows was a regular occurrence when the plows are running, but it's usually nothing more than a minor annoyance.
This year's mix of snow and sleet, though, made for an icy mix on the busy road above; the plows flying through I-278 sent the unusually hard objects hurtling through the air at high speeds.

"It broke a lot of the window and a lot of the glass came in," 9-year-old Caitlin Morales, the granddaughter, told ABC7.
A Department of Sanitation spokesman said in a statement to Patch that it was investigating the incident.
"Anyone who sustained damage to their property should request a tort form from the Department and file a claim with the NYC Comptroller's office," the statement said.
