Manhole Explosion Outside Sunset Park School Sends Fire Crews To Scene
A manhole fire broke out around 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at P.S. 169.
SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — A manhole fire and explosion outside of P.S. 169 Sunset Park School on Tuesday afternoon sent firefighters rushing to the scene.
An FDNY spokesperson told Patch that electrical wires were burning, and power lines in the area were smoking. Wires on a power pole running from the transformer were on fire, the spokesperson said.
A Con Ed spokesman told Patch that it had crews on its way to the scene.

"The second and third day of plus 90-degree heat waves, when everything starts to heat up underground, we’ll get some instances of cables burning up," the Con Ed spokesman told Patch. "That’s likely what we’re seeing right now. We just respond to them as quickly as we can."
