Jet Ski Crash Near Statue Of Liberty Kills Man, Police Say

The jet ski crashed into a boat in the harbor, police said.

NEW YORK, NY — A man has died after crashing his jet ski into a boat in the New York Harbor near the Statue of Liberty, the NYPD said.

The man was jet-skiing near Liberty Island on Sunday when he tried to cross in front of a small boat, police said. The man fell off of his jet ski and the boat passed over him, according to police.

When the boat passed over him, he was hit by the boat's propeller, giving him severe lacerations and a dislocated shoulder.

NYPD Harbor Units raced to rescue the 26-year-old man and took him to Brooklyn Army Terminal Pier, where EMS transported him to Lutheran Medical Center in critical condition.

He later died of his injuries, police said Monday.

The driver of the small boat remained on scene, police said. No one in that boat was injured in the collision, according to police.

No one has been arrested and an investigation is ongoing.
