Here are the top stories today in Sunset Park:

  1. You may know Andrew Kimball, CEO of Industry City in Sunset Park, but you may now know that he has just been appointed president and chief executive officer of the NYC Economic Development Corporation under Mayor Eric Adams. Kimbal is tasked with delivering on the mayor's economic development vision, "creating good jobs in burgeoning fields, such as cybersecurity and life sciences and creatively using the city's asset to promote equitable growth," wrote the Brooklyn Eagle. (Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
  2. NYU Langone's new EnTRy program, made possible by an unprecedented $5 million federal grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, is part of the outpatient psychiatry program at the Family Health Centers. "EnTRy will focus on patients with severe mental illnesses, such as bipolar disorders, psychosis, and schizophrenia. The program will pay special attention to problems of joblessness, unstable housing, and a lack of digital literacy that can keep patients in a spiral of poor mental health," said Hunter L. McQuistion, MD, medical director of EnTRy and clinical professor of psychiatry at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. (NYU Langone Health)
  3. Don Hong, president of UA3 of Canal Street distributed food to dozens of community groups across the city. Hong invited Daniel Goodine, co-founder of the Brownsville community-based organization Men Elevating Leadership (MEL) to his Lunar New Year's event in Sunset Park. Goodine said, “MEL has for two years worked with UA3 to provide healthy food to millions of people… We are here to support the city. We have never been paid for the work in the past but provide and work to put food on many tables.” (Amsterdam News)
  4. Bike advocates are "cautiously optimistic" about plans to improve and expand the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway. The NYC Parks Department has released plans for 11 projects to improve and connect the existing waterfront, which would make bike travel far more convenient. City transportation officials made a pledge in 2012 to construct a 26-mile cohesive bike lane, a promise which has not yet been fully realized. (Brooklyn Paper)
