Here are the top stories today in Sunset Park:
- More businesses are leaving pricey Manhattan to affordable Sunset Park. Vestiaire Collective, an online store that touts, "the best of pre-owned fashion at 30 to 70 percent off original retail price," will move its offices and warehouse to Liberty Brooklyn, more than doubling its New York City footprint, Commercial Observer has learned. Vestiaire Collective plans to move into the space in the second quarter of this year. (Commercial Observer)
- Sunset Park Area events: The weather will be exceptional this Saturday, so why not take advantage and take a walking tour in your own backyard, so to speak. Experience "love… and death" at noon Saturday, Feb. 12. Love and death have been intertwined for centuries, claim the organizers of “Happily Never After,” which offers locals the chance to familiarize themselves with Valentine’s Day in an unorthodox way: on a guided walking tour of Brooklyn’s sprawling Green-Wood Cemetery, highlighting some of its most famous residents. Starting from the complex’s main Sunset Park entrance at 25th Street and 5th Avenue, tickets for the general public cost $30 each; tales of heartbreak and melancholy are included in the price, reported Brooklyn Magazine. (Brooklyn Magazine)
- This Groundhog Day, the rodents were conflicted, but my bet goes to the one who predicted an early spring. According to the National Weather Service, high temperatures Saturday are expected to hit nearly 60 degrees! Enjoy it while it lasts. (Patch)
- An Uber driver is in recovery after being shot in the back while letting a customer out of his vehicle. The 39-year-old driver was parked near the corner of Ocean Avenue and Farragut Road in Flatbush when the unknown suspect approached his vehicle and fired at him. Fortunately, the shot only grazed the victim, and he is expected to make a full recovery. No arrests have yet been made in connection with this incident. (AMNY)
