Here are the top stories in Sunset Park today:
- Mayor Eric Adams said he was pleased by the upcoming visit of President Joe Biden, who is expected to visit New York City next week to discuss combating gun violence, the White House announced Wednesday. Biden and Adams plan to “discuss the Administration’s comprehensive strategy to combat gun crime, which includes historic levels of funding for cities and states to put more cops on the beat and invest in community violence prevention and intervention programs, as well as stepped up federal law enforcement efforts against illegal gun traffickers,” according to a statement from the White House. (Politico)
- Democrats who control the state Legislature are plotting to knock off Rep. Nicole Malliotakis — the only Republican member of New York City’s congressional delegation — by redrawing a legislative district to add liberal Brooklyn precincts to her Republican stronghold, sources told The Post Wednesday night. Under the redistricting plan that would go into effect for elections later this year, the district would include Bay Ridge but then snake northwest and take in the more heavily liberal Democratic neighborhoods of Sunset Park, Red Hook, Gowanus, Windsor Terrace and Park Slope, legislative sources said. (New York Post)
- Care/of is coming to Liberty Brooklyn in Sunset Park. According to The Real Deal, Care/of is relocating and consolidating its industrial operations from the Brooklyn Navy Yard and its offices in Manhattan to part of the sixth floor of Liberty Bklyn. The space will accommodate manufacturing, shipping, production, creative and administrative functions for the brand, which produces vitamins, supplements and powders. (The Real Deal)
